Walking in Wiltshire

Days out walking are varied and plentiful from Mere; we have a selection of books and walks with maps in the area which we are happy to lend to guests.  The Monarch’s Way www.monarchsway.50megs.com goes through the town, there are also local walks on Mere Down and around Stourhead the World-famous 18th-century landscape garden and Palladian mansion. Within 150 yards of Castleton House B&B you can be off the road and into the Wiltshire countryside.

Cycling in Wiltshire

cycling

Gail has been on two British Heart Foundation charity bike rides, the first one was in India cycling from Agra to Jaipur in November 2010; and then again the following year this time from Ho Chi Ming, Vietnam to Angkor Wat, Cambodia in November 2011.   The result being that we do really understand what you need after a long day in the saddle.  We have secure parking for bikes either in the sheds in our enclosed walled garden or in the garage if you prefer.  There are puncture repair kits in the house and if you wish to stay and spend a couple of days cycling then there are many routes that we can suggest. Being just a short walk away from the town’s pubs and restaurants means evening meals are easy to access.

Mere is on the Wiltshire Cycleway, we keep maps of the route or they can be picked up from the local Tourist Information Centre.  Wiltshire boasts great on or off road cycling and you can see in the link below some of our suggestions.
