Castleton House is an ideal location to explore Southern England being 35 minutes from both the cities of Salisbury and Bath, and if you’re travelling onto Cornwall we are just off the A303 and half way between London and the Cornish coast, there are many other places to visit if you wish to stay for a few days.
If you are planning a cycling or walking holiday in Wiltshire then a stay here has the advantage of being in the centre of the village with pubs and restaurants just a short walk away. The house is situated in the heart of Mere, which is nestled in the Wiltshire/Dorset borders and close to Somerset. If you’re cycling then Gail will understand your needs having taken part part, albeit over a decade ago, in two overseas charity cycling challenges for the British Heart Foundation in India and Vietnam/Cambodia. Since then we have both enjoyed short breaks cycling from Hook of Holland to Amsterdam, around vineyards in Bourdeaux, a trip across Transylvania and peddling from Vienna to Budapest.
There is free parking available at our front door and off street parking can be arranged on request. Local pubs and restaurants are a short walk away. Two of the guest bedrooms are on the first floor and the third ‘attic’ double bedroom is on the second floor. Our first floor drawing room is available for guests who are welcome to sink into our comfortable sofas perhaps with a cup of tea, or with a drink (please bring your own, but we can provide ice and lemons!).
We are just three miles from the National Trust’s wonderful garden at Stourhead, a 20 minute drive from Longleat House and Safari Park, and half an hour West of Stonehenge
It’s hoped that this website will provide you with plenty of information about our home, the surrounding area and things you may wish to do during a stay. If however you’d like to know anything else then please telephone or e-mail and we’ll do all we can to help you.
